Group 3

Fairtrade: The Banana Story

To begin you will complete a KWL chart to assess your existing knowledge on Fair Trade and what you would like to learn.

So what exactly is Fair Trade? Let's listen to what Ali-G has to say about it!

We will discuss where foods come from; noting that some foods come from far away countries before we can buy them. We will learn the story of the banana from banana plantations to shops in Ireland. In pairs you will act out the different stages of the journey of the banana using the information cards provided. At the end you will decide who seemed to do the most work. Now go back and open page 10 of the slide show showing a banana split into pieces.
  • Now guess how much the banana costs?
  • How much do you think each group gets?
  • Should they all get the same amount?
Now we will watch a You Tube clip about Fair Trade bananas and where they come from.

Now, time to Voki. In your pairs I want you to read through information about Fair Trade in this website and create your own Voki using the most important information.
